Using Keywords to Market Your Niche Website

By | Jul 31, 2010

When you have a  site on the Internet  , it is important to use keywords properly in order for your website to show up high in the search engine results . If you are not properly utilizing keywords on your website, then your website may not appear as high up as it could in the search engine results. Proper keyword placement and knowing where to use keywords is vital in marketing your website to the search engines. Here are are several tips on where you should be using keywords on your website and how:

  1. In the URL: Using keywords in the URL is important because search engines can match the words in the URL with the content of the website. While many popular search engines don’t  tell website masters  their algorithms for  how they place websites  , it is a common belief that using keywords in the URL can help when the words are related to the website’s content.
  2. In the title of the article:  Many  search engines assess the  words near the top  of the page more than they value the content  on or near the end of the page  . Due to this, article titles are always near the top of the page and keywords should be used in the title.
  3. In the content of the website: Once again, search engines feel that the content near the top of the page is more important than content at the bottom. This is genuinely common sense; if you have important info, why would you list it at the bottom of the page?  Sometimes  , people will not read  entire pieces of content  or if they cannot  locate the info  they are looking for in the first few paragraphs, then they will quit reading it. Keywords will inform people what the article’s  point  is and it will also inform the search engines of the purpose. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t spread your keywords out in the article or content, but they should at least be  placed  in the top portion of the article or content.
  4. Don’t overuse the keywords: Getting more into depth on #3, make sure that you are not keyword stuffing. Keyword stuffing is when you use keywords excessively and search engines can penalize websites for this. A good idea is to keep keywords around 3%-5% of the total article or content.

There are many ways to use keywords properly on a website or blog and  the ones listed above are just a few  . However, you get a good idea on how you can ethically and  simply  start using them to gain ground in the search engines.
