Twitturly LogoLooking to find the “pulse” of Twitter?

Take a look at Twitturly. Twitturly is a site that tracks what URLs people are talking about in their tweets on Twitter.

It features a Digg like ranking system, in that when someone posts a URL it adds a vote to that links ranking.  As more and more people tweet a link its ranking rises.

So if you are trying to find out the latest “hot” topics Twitturly is a great place to find out what everyone is talking about….RIGHT NOW.

Twitturly will show the 100 most popular links from Twitter from the past 24 hours.

twittervision = cool

So today is Christmas Eve and it’s fun to watch all the tweets coming through from my Twitter friends about what they are doing for Christmas and what they are eating and EVEN what they are opening up as new gifts!

Here’s a really cool site that you can watch for literally HOURS.  It’s called TwitterVision.

What TwitterVision is, is a real-time visualization of Twitter posts as they happen from around the globe.

TwitterVision shows you a map of the world and then places “tweets” on the map from the location of the Twitterer.  It’s so addicting and really fun to watch, especially around the holidays.

Thanks TwitterVision, your site rocks!

P.S. – Check out the 3D view as well, super cool!

How To Reply on Twitter

Did you just see someone “tweet” a question or something that you would like to reply to?

Here’s how you can reply to that person right from your Twitter account.

When you are posting your tweet you can include the @ symbol,  this signifies you wish to target this message at someone specific.  You use @twitterusername in your tweet.

So if you wanted to reply to me you would send a message that goes something like this:

“Hey @ryanmcmillan I noticed that you set up a really neat resource for Twitter users, called Twitorials, Thanks!”

By using the @ symbol in front of a Twitter user name you are able to send what is called an “@reply” to that user.  You can view the reply’s you have received in the graphic below:

atreply

Now depending on their settings, which I will get to in just a moment, this may or may not show up in that users timeline.

Here’s how you change change your “@reply” settings, so they perform like you want.

You can either have them all show up in your timeline, only @replys from the people you are following or none.

To change your @reply settings:

  1. Log in to Twitter
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click Notices
  4. Select the appropriate setting: all or nothing, or somewhere in between.
  5. Save your changes
